
Firebirds Post Third Straight Victory, Win 5-2 over Kitchener Saturday

Flint, Mich. - Nicholas Caamano scored two goals, Kole Sherwood scored once and tallied an assist and Maurizio Colella collected two points as the Flint Firebirds defeated the Kitchener Rangers 5-2 before more than 3,200 fans at the Dort Federal Event Center on Saturday night. The win was Flint's third-straight.
Kole Sherwood (Columbus Blue Jackets) opened the scoring for the Firebirds when he buried his 26th goal of the season 57 seconds into the opening frame. Sherwood fired a wrist-shot from the left-circle that caromed of the crossbar and into the net to earn Flint a 1-0 lead. Sherwood's goal extended his point streak 12 games, and was his 12th lamp-lighter in the last eight games.
The Firebirds doubled their lead less than two minutes later when Nick Caamano (Dallas Stars) scored his 24th goal of the season after he received a breakout pass from Hunter Holmes at center-ice. Caamano split the defense and slid the puck five-hole on Luke Opilka (St. Louis Blues) to put Flint up 2-0.
Adam Mascherin (Florida Panthers) cut the deficit to one goal on the power-play after he cranked a one-timer from the top of the right-circle that beat Garrett Forrest for his 31st goal of the season.
Flint extended their lead to two goals again less than two minutes later after Caamano backhanded a rebound on the right-side of the cage that beat a sprawling Opilka for his 25th goal of the season and second of the night. Everett Clark won a draw at the left circle to Samuel Duchesne, who dished the puck to Henderson. Henderson's blast was deflected by Jake Durham before Caamano was able to bury the loose puck. After scoring, Caamano has six goals in the past six games.
Colella earned Flint a 4-1 lead when he scored his 10th goal of the season at the 3:52 mark of the third period by finishing a pass from Sherwood behind Opilka. Ryan Moore picked up an assist which earned him 22 points in the last 14 games and is now on a three-game point-streak.
The Rangers made it a two-goal game when Connor Bunnaman (Philadelphia Flyers) scored his 27th goal of the by one-timing a pass from Mascherin on the left-circle that beat Forrest blocker-side to make the score 4-2.
Jake Durham regained the Firebirds three-goal lead after he spit the defense and fired a shot over the glove of Opilka for his sixth goal of the season at the 12:35 mark of the final frame. Assisting on the play was Colella and Forrest who collected his first OHL point as a netminder. The Firebirds would stay in the lead to win 5-2.
Flint outshot the Rangers 34-29. Kitchener was one-for-three on the power-play, while the Firebirds were scoreless on two chances. Caamano collected first star honors after scoring twice. Forrest earned the second star after making 27 saves on 29 shots and Sherwood was awarded the third star after collecting two points.

The Flint Firebirds return home to the Dort Federal Event Center Wednesday, Feb. 8 to host the London Knights. Saturday's game against the Rangers is the fourth of five "College Night's" this season, featuring $2 beers and $2 hot dogs for all fans in attendance and $2 off tickets for student's with valid college I.D.
Single game tickets for the Flint Firebirds 2016-17 season are $12 for Bronze, $15 for Silver, $19 for Gold and $25 for VIP seating. All seats are reserved / assigned seating.
