
Firebirds Knock off First Place Erie 5-3 on the Road

Erie, Penn. - Flint's Will Bitten and Ryan Moore recorded three-point nights and Kyle Keyser secured his second win over the Erie Otters in a 5-3 victory at the Erie Insurance Arena on Wednesday night.
The Firebirds rallied for a three-goal lead in the first period starting with Ryan Moore's tally with 4:11 remaining. While on a four-on-four play, Will Bitten entered the Erie zone with speed and dished the puck into a crashing Moore who buried for the initial lead.
1:38 later and from the left circle, Jacob Collins found Dane Johnstone at the right point who sniped the puck off the back bar for his seventh goal of the season. Then, 41 seconds later, Flint's Saarijarvi blasted a puck off the far side post and into the net six seconds into Flint's first power play of the evening. The Firebirds lead 3-0 after the first period and outshot the Otters 11-7.
Erie's Alex DeBrincat scored 4:08 into the middle period on the power play on a one-timer for the left circle before Kyle Pettit also converted on the man-advantage on a rebound in the slot. Brett Neumann tied the game for the Otters at 8:32 of the second period also on a rebound goal in the slot.
The Firebirds earned the lead with 5:05 remaining in the second when Keenan Reynolds found Will Bitten backdoor who buried for the 4-3 lead and the eventual game-winning goal.
Ryan Moore scored the insurance goal with 27 seconds remaining in the game on an empty-net strike from the neutral zone.
The Firebirds were one-for-four on the man-advantage and earned 46 face off wins compared to Erie's 20 won draws. Kyle Keyser picked up his second victory over the Erie Otters this season making 41 saves on Erie's 44 shots.
The Firebirds are back in action tomorrow night on the road against the Niagara IceDogs. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. at the Meridian Centre (capacity 5,300). Thursday's game against the IceDogs will be televised live in Niagara on Cogeco cable channel 10 and across the province of Ontario on the OHL Action Pak on cable channel 438.
