March 9, 2016 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Owen Sound Attack News Release
The Owen Sound Attack fell for the 2nd time in as many meetings against the Barrie Colts when the teams met on Wednesday, Mar. 9 at the Bayshore.
The Colts, who won all six meetings between the teams on the year, stormed out to a big first period lead before holding on to take an 8-1 win.
Kevin Hancock would register Owen Sound's lone goal on the evening, a late game powerplay marker.
The first period wouldn't go as planned for the Attack, with Barrie jumping out to a quick 1-0 lead that they would increase to a 4-0 advantage before the end of the first.
Adrian Carbonara would get the visitors on the board first, scoring on a turnover just 2:50 into the game. Rasmus Andersson would then make good on a 2-on-1 break to make it a 2-0 advantage for the Colts just over three minutes later.
Roy Radke would then make it a three goal lead for the Central Division's 1st place team with 14:40 gone in the opening 20 minutes of play, bringing Daniel Dekoning into the game in relief for Michael McNiven in the process.
The Colts would then cap off the scoring in the first period by scoring on another 2-on-1 with 3:07 left in the frame. This time it would be Keigan Goetz scoring, and giving Barrie a 4-0 lead heading into the 2nd period.
And when the middle stanza did begin, the Colts' scoring touch remained intact.
Dylan Sadowy would add Barrie's 5th of the game, scoring on a snapshot from the faceoff dot to the left of Dekoning with 4:11 having been played in the frame.
The Colts continued to find the back of the net, making it a six goal lead on Andrew Mangiapane's 47th of the season just after the 10 minute mark of the frame.
Less than two minutes later it was 7-0 for the visitors with Anthony Stefano scoring on a deflection with 12:18 gone in the 2nd. Stefano's goal would be the final tally of the middle 20 minutes of action, and send the teams to the 3rd period.
Owen Sound would finally get past Barrie's Mackenzie Blackwood though, with Kevin Hancock picking up his 11th of the season on a late Baywest Nissan Powerplay. Thomas Schemitsch and Jaden Lindo would register the assists on the play that made it an 8-1 final.
The Mark McDade Remax Shots on Goal would finisha t 39-34 in favour of the visitors on the night.
Josh Sterk, who suited up in his 300th career Ontario Hockey League game on Wednesday night, was named the Hatten Home Building Centre Hardest Working Player of the Game.
Barrie swept all three of the Mac Taylor Corporation Stars of the Game on the evening with Andrew Mangiapane, Rasmus Andersson, and Kevin Labanc being named 1st, 2nd, and 3rd stars respectively.
