CHICAGO, IL (Friday, March 23, 2002) - After sweeping Guatemala's CSD Municipal this week in the FC Champions Cup, the Chicago Fire is preparing for the 2002 MLS opener against the Columbus Crew on Saturday, March 23 at 3:00 p.m. CT from Crew Stadium. Tomorrow's match will be broadcast live on national television on ABC Sports (Ch. 7), and can also be heard live via the team's official radio stations, WBIG 1280 AM (English), WIND 560 AM (Spanish), and WNVR 1030 AM (Polish).

Bob Bradley's squad heads into its fifth MLS campaign after a successful preseason, compiling an impressive 5-1-1 record in and advancing to the quarterfinals of the FC Champions Cup by shutting out Guatemala's defending champion CSD Municipal 3-0 on aggregate. The team will go on to face one of Mexico's premiere teams, Club Morelia. Dates/times/sites for the two-game home-away series are to be determined.

Fire midfielder Jesse Marsch will be chatting with fans on ESPN.com today at 1:00 p.m. CT. to talk about the team's MLS opener this Saturday against the Columbus Crew...A Fire original, Marsch has made 130 MLS appearances (109 starts), registering 12 goals and 23 assists for 47 points in his career with both Chicago and D.C. United, where he played from 1996-97. He became the first player in Fire history to play in 100 games for the team and is the team's all-time leader in that category with 115. He helped the Fire capture the 1998 MLS Cup Championship and 1998 & 2000 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Championships, winning his second "Double" of his career in 1998.

Quick Facts vs. Columbus

The Fire leads the all-time series against Columbus with a 8-3-1 (5-1-0 at home, 3-2-1 away) record.
Chicago leads the series at Crew Stadium with a solid 3-1-1 record in five matches since the stadium opened in 1999.
Fire forward and U.S. World Cup hopeful Ante Razov leads the "Men in Red" in scoring vs. the Crew with six goals for 12 points in nine games - including three game-winning tallies.
Captain Peter Nowak is just behind Razov, posting three goals and four assists for 10 points vs. the Black and Gold.
Fire goalkeeper Zach Thornton has posted a 7-2-1 record against the Crew, including two shutouts and a 1.29 GAA.
The Fire defeated the Crew 2-1 (OT) to capture its first U.S. Open Cup title on October 30, 1998 at Soldier Field.
