PASADENA, CA (Friday, March 22, 2002) - Forward Alejandro Moreno and midfielder Jesus Ochoa have signed with Major League Soccer (MLS) and the Los Angeles Galaxy. Moreno and Ohcoa, who will be classified as developmental players, will be available to make their first appearance in a Galaxy uniform during Saturday's season opener vs. D.C. United.
"The addition of Alejandro and Jesus complements our existing core group of players, while adding additional depth to our roster," said Doug Hamilton, VP/GM of the L.A. Galaxy. " We are pleased to welcome them to the team and have high expectations for both of them."
The Galaxy's 27th overall selection in the 2002 MLS SuperDraft, Moreno attended UNC Greensboro where he finished his career as the Spartans fourth leading scorer of all-time with 155 points on 65 goals and 25 assists. The 5-9, 170 pound, Moreno was also named to the first team NSCAA All-South Region squad for the fourth straight year and a first team All-Southern Conference selection in each of the past three seasons. A native of Venezuela, Moreno graduated early from UNC Greensboro with a degree in International Business.
A member of the Portland Timbers of the A-League in 2001, the Galaxy coaching staff spotted this talented midfielder and brought him into the team for preseason training. The 5-11, 170-pound Ochoa appeared in 16 games with the Timbers, earning 968 minutes on the pitch. A native of Mexico, Ochoa grew-up in Riverside, Calif. before going on to spend one year at California Baptist University. In 1999, he spent three months training with the reserve squad of Mexican First Division club Chivas, including scoring one goal against Atlas reserves.
The Galaxy will open its seventh MLS season on March 23 when they take on D.C. United at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena (7:00 p.m. PT kickoff) For more information regarding Los Angeles Galaxy season tickets for the 2002 MLS season, please call the Galaxy toll free at (877) 3GALAXY.
