Sporting Kansas City News Release

Over 2,500 area students successfully completed in the "Go For The Goal" Reading Rewards Program in 2002. In conjunction with public school districts throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area, the Wizards and Galyan's implemented a reading rewards program for kindergarten through elementary grade levels. Each student was required to read 15 minutes for 4 nights per week, for five weeks in February and March. Each student that completed greater than 70% of the requirements received one free ticket to the Wizards home opener this Saturday. Each student that completed 100% of the requirements received two free tickets.

All schools kicked off the Reading Rewards program with a school assembly and special guest appearances by Wizards General Manager Curt Johnson and Wizards players. Districts that participated are: Kansas City, Kansas, Turner, Gardner, Edgerton, Belton, Grandview, Raymore Peculiar, Independence, Blue Springs, Ft. Osage and North Kansas City.

"We are thrilled with the number of area students who successfully completed this program," Wizards General Manager Curt Johnson said. "Thanks to all the teachers and parents who helped implement the program. Soccer is the number one love of a lot of these kids. It's a perfect mix."
