Fire Frogs Defeat Mets 3-1

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The Florida Fire Frogs won a series opener 3-1 over the St. Lucie Mets on Monday at First Data Field.

David Wright played in his second straight rehab game. He played five innings at third base and went 0 for 1 at the plate with a walk and a strikeout.

Defensively, Wright fielded a grounder and ran it to the third base bag for a force out. He also caught a shallow popup on the infield.

Florida scored in the first inning on a one-out RBI single by William Contreras. In the fourth inning Contreras led off with a double and went on to score on a bases-loaded walk.

Braxton Davidson hit an opposite field home run in the eighth inning to make it 3-0 Fire Frogs.

The Mets got on the board in the bottom of the eighth when Luis Carpio hit a leadoff homer to left field. It was Carpio's team-leading 12th long ball of the year.

Fire Frogs starter Huascar Ynoa blanked the Mets over his six innings. He had a no-hitter going through five innings. Anthony Dimino broke the bid up with a one-out infield single in the sixth.

Michael Gibbons held his own on the mound for the Mets. The Fire Frogs went just 1 for 9 against Gibbons with runners in scoring position. Gibbons gave up two runs on five hits in five innings. He walked four and struck out four.

Adam Atkins fired two perfect innings of relief with three strikeouts.

Contreras went 2 for 3 with a double, walk, RBI and run for Florida.

The Mets (20-29, 47-69) and Fire Frogs (17-30, 46-67) play game 2 of their series at First Data Field on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
