Florida Fire Frogs News Release
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - Huascar Ynoa rebounded after allowing nine runs in just one inning on Wednesday by shutting out the St. Lucie Mets through six frames during the Florida Fire Frogs' 3-1 victory at First Data Field on Monday night.
Ynoa (1-2) took a no-hit bid through five innings before allowing a one-out single to Anthony Dimino in the sixth. The right-hander struck out Desmond Lindsay, and retired Blake Tiberi on a groundout to work through the remainder of the frame.
The Atlanta Braves 21st-ranked prospect walked two batters to go along with the hit allowed, but also picked up seven strikeouts in his first quality start at the High-A level. The 20-year-old needed 85 pitches on the night, with 53 going for strikes in his first win in the Florida State League.
Florida (16-30, 46-67) started the scoring early against Michael Gibbons (3-7) with a run in the first. William Contreras (2x3, R, 2B, RBI, BB) picked up his first hit of the night with an RBI single to center, pushing across Riley Delgado (1x4, R) from second to give the visitors the 1-0 lead.
The Fire Frogs added an insurance run in the fourth, with Contreras starting the inning with a double. After back-to-back free passes to Braxton Davidson (1x3, R, HR, RBI, BB) and Greyson Jenista (1x3, BB), Garrison Schwartz (0x4) and Kurt Hoekstra (0x4) were retired in front of Marcus Mooney's (0x3, RBI, BB) run-scoring walk.
Davidson provided a three-run cushion with a solo blast to left for his 19th long ball of the season.
St. Lucie (20-29, 47-69) cut into Florida's lead with Luis Carpio's solo home run to lead off the eighth against Brandon White, but the Fire Frogs' bullpen held the home team off the scoreboard through the rest of the contest.
Dan Lietz (SV, 2) earned his second save of the reason by collecting the final four outs on just seven pitches.
Florida looks to take the two-game advantage in the four-game series at First Data Field on Tuesday night. LHP Tucker Davidson (6-9, 4.66) toes the rubber for the Fire Frogs against the Mets' LHP Anthony Kay (2-5, 3.63). First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
