Marauders Score First But Drop Seventh Straight Game
August 13, 2018 - Florida State League (FSL1)
Bradenton Marauders News Release
CLEARWATER, Fla. - In the first game of a four game series on the road, the Bradenton Marauders fell to the Florida State League North Division leading Clearwater Threshers by a 3-1 tally on Monday night.
Bradenton jumped out to an early lead in the visitor's half of the second inning when Mitchell Tolman led off the inning with a double to left-center field for his 11th two-bagger of the season. Tolman was brought around to score when Brett Pope roped a line drive through the legs of Clearwater starter LHP Bailey Falter to being home the Marauders only run of the evening in the defeat. Falter finished his night with the fourth victory of the year for the lefty after breezing through six inning with a single run allowed on six hits with zero walks and eight strikeouts included in the effort. A pair of Clearwater reliever finished by blanking the road side for the final two frames while giving up a hit each, including RHP Addison Russ who continued his late-inning dominance for the Threshers, converting on his thirteenth save in as many tries and his 24th overall save of the 2018 season.
In his 12th start and 24th overall appearance, RHP Mike Wallace extended his team lead in losses, taking his tenth of the year on Monday after he threw six innings for the ninth time on the season and allowed three runs on just four hits with a single walk and four strikeouts included. LHP Jordan Jess was perhaps the player of the night for the Marauders, as the lefty tossed two innings of scoreless relief, facing one batter over the minimum due to a walk in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The Marauders continue their final trip of the year to Clearwater on Tuesday in the second game of four at 7 pm, with RHP Evan Piechota taking on MLB rehab arm RHP Jerad Eickhoff.
