TAMPA, Fla. - On Monday, the Florida State League named Tampa Tarpons' RHP Deivi Garcia the latest "Pitcher of the Week." This honor was for games played August 6th-12th.
Garcia tied a career-high with 12 strikeouts while retiring all 21 batters he faced over seven perfect innings in Game 2 of a doubleheader vs. the Clearwater Threshers on Monday, August 6th. The 19-year-old faced just three three-ball counts while throwing 50-of-83 pitches for strikes.
The New York Yankees signed Garcia as a non-drafted free agent on 7/2/15. The native of Bonao, Dominican Republic is No. 12 on the MLB Pipeline Yankees Top 30 Prospects list and entered the season ranked by Baseball America as the No. 14 Yankees prospect.
