Fighting Saints Skate Past Team USA 6-3

The Dubuque Fighting Saints used big time efforts from Ty Jackson and Dylan Jackson to power past the Team USA U-17 team on Saturday night. Dubuque got off to a quick start and were up 2-0 early in the second. Team USA battled back to one goal deficits twice but every time they scored, Dubuque answered. Dylan Jackson had four points and Ty had two as Dubuque secured their fifth road win of the season.

-The game tonight was much like last night for the Fighting Saints except they were on the other side of the equation. Dubuque answered every goal from the U-17's and played a strong road game from start to finish. The only time the Fighting Saints were vulnerable was when they found themselves a man down.

-Dylan and Ty Jackson were phenomenal and their line mate Riese Gaber wasn't bad as well. The three combined for nine points during the game. Gaber added two assists to the Jackson twins stellar output. This is the third time this season the line has had at least seven points combined in a game. Cedar Rapids and Lincoln were the other two games.

-Aaron Randazzo was solid for Dubuque. He didn't have a particularly flashy game, but made all the saves that he needed to for the Fighting Saints. When he was beat, he was beaten clean by some good shots. Randazzo has twice spelled Matthew Thiessen with quality starts and this time he got his first USHL win.

-Dubuque was electric on their power play tonight. The top unit of James Sanchez, Willie Knierim, JD Greenway, Matias Maccelli and Logan Pietila created chance after chance a man up. Maccelli scored his fifth goal of the season on the power play in the first period. Even after that goal, the line was still buzzing a man up all game despite not notching a second power play goal.

-The U-17 team is known for great offensive prowess, however, tonight Dubuque contained them for the most part. The team showed flashes of how good they can be offensively, but were shut down by the defense of Dubuque at even strength. Team USA was able to flex its muscles a man up, but with the numbers even, Dubuque carried the play.

-Jacob Semik played in his 100th career USHL game and very close to home. Semik is a Michigan commit and after missing the game against Youngstown last night, he returned and provided key minutes for the Fighting Saints. Semik's presence was certainly missed against the Phantoms.

-Dubuque returns to action tomorrow during the afternoon against the U-18 team, who handed the Muskegon Lumberjacks their first loss of the season Saturday night. Dubuque will be tested by arguably the best offense in the USHL, with puck drop slated for 1pm CT/2pm ET.
