BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Flying Aces defeated the Green Bay Gamblers, 5-1, after scoring four goals in the third period. The Aces were led to victory by a three-point night from Trevor Janicke (Maple Grove, Minn.).
The Flying Aces got on the board first when Janicke shot the puck from the slot. The Gamblers goaltender made the initial save, but Lynden Breen (Grand Bay-Westfield, NB) scooped the loose puck from in front of the goaltender and roofed it over the goaltender's shoulder at 6:37 in the first. Max Ellis (Canton, Mich.) also assisted on the goal.
Neither team got on the board during the second period, but the Aces did kill off a Green Bay five-on-three power play.
Philip Elgestal (Gotenburg, Swe.) passed to Tate Singleton (West Lebanon, NH) in the slot. Singleton's initial shot was stopped, but Janicke picked up the rebound and put the puck in the gaping net to make it 2-0 at 1:31 in the third.
Green Bay got on the board at 9:03 in the third when Paul Maust caught a breakaway pass and scored.
At 10:56 in the third, Breen won a face-off back to Joe Dunlap (Windham, NH) who passed the puck to Stephen Halliday (Toronto, Ont.) who tipped the puck past the netminder to restore the two-goal lead.
Jeremy Davidson (Schoolcraft, Mich.) led Benito Posa (Grand Blanc, Mich.) with an outlet pass and Posa muscled his way past his defender to score blocker-side for his first with the Flying Aces.
At 15:52 in the third, Sebastian Dirven (Cornwall, Ont.) passed to Janicke who was posted behind the net. Janicke quickly fed Ryan Siedem who scored from the right circle to make it 5-1.
The Aces were perfect on the penalty kill stopping all three of the Gamblers' chances.
Ryan Snowden (Kennett Square, Penn.) stopped nineteen of twenty shots faced in the win.
The team travels to Youngstown for a three-game battle on November 2, 3, and 5 followed by a match against Dubuque on November 9 before finally returning home on November 10 for Salute to Service Night.
