Chicago Steel News Release
CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA - The Chicago Steel tied the game three separate times before Robert Mastrosimone scored the game winner in overtime to cap a 4-3 win over the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders Saturday night at Cedar Rapids Ice Arena. Cole Quisenberry (2-0-2) and Mastrosimone (2-0-2) each scored twice, including Mastrosimone's breakway winner in the extra session and Quisenberry's third period goal to send the game to overtime.
Twenty seconds after Cedar Rapids defenseman Will Francis opened the scoring on the powerplay, Quisenberry answered back to tie the game midway through the second period. Quisenberry was set up by left wing Gunnarwolfe Fontaine with a pass that found the Brown University commit in the slot for the one-time shot past RoughRiders goaltender Blake Pietilla.
The RoughRiders answered back for the lead 2:10 later when forward Liam Walsh collected a Steel turnover in the neutral zone and fired a snap shot past Steel goaltender Justin Robbins on a two-on-one opportunity.
Chicago (4-4-1-0, 9 pts.) responded 1:52 later at the 15:20 mark of the second when Mastrosimone scored his fifth of the season. The play started when center Nick Abruzzese dropped a pass to right wing Travis Treloar who skated towards Pietilla's net before finding Mastrosimone for the one-time shot. Treloar's assist was the first of his USHL career.
Cedar Rapids (5-2-2-0, 12 pts.) completed the back-and-forth second period, scoring with 47 seconds left in the frame remaining when Grant Silianoff finished off a Nathan Smith pass for a one-time shot past the blocker of Robbins.
The Steel tied things up at three with just 7:14 to play in regulation when Quisenberry scored his second of the game. Left wing Neil Shea skated down the near boards and sent a backhand pass through two RoughRiders that landed on the stick of Quisenberry for a backhanded chip over the glove of Pietilla and eventually send the game to overtime.
In extra time, Steel defenseman Matteo Pietroniro collected the puck after a big save from Robbins and rung a pass around to Abruzzese who sprung Mastrosimone on a breakaway. After entering the zone, Mastrosimone pulled a deke on Pietilla and sent a shot towards the goaltender who made the initial save with his toe before the puck trickled over the line. The Steel bench erupted as Chicago celebrated its fourth victory in its last six games.
The Steel return home November 2 and 3 for a pair of games against Green Bay and Muskegon, including the first post-game Skate with the Steel on Saturday, November 3. Tickets for all Steel home games are on sale now starting at just $10 and stadium seating on the glass is available for just $20. Parking is always free. The Steel offer discounted tickets for groups and season ticket plans start at just 5 games for $45.
