Beloit Sky Carp News Release
Davenport, IO - A huge seventh inning propelled the Beloit Snappers (38-43) to a 6-5 victory over the Quad Cities River Bandits (46-37) on Independence Day from Davenport, Iowa in front of 4,061 at Modern Woodman Park.
The Snappers scored five runs in the seventh inning off reliever Humberto Castellanos, who relieved River Bandits starter Enoli Paredes. The Snappers had five hits in the inning and were aided by two errors, a fielding error on third baseman David Hensley and a throwing error on shortstop Miguelangel Sierra.
Trailing 4-1 entering the fifth, Jesus Lopez and Jack Meggs got it started with back-to-back singles. A past ball advanced them to second and third and Jordan Devencenzi hit a sac fly to score Lopez. Ryan Gridley would single home Meggs to cut the deficit to one. Mickey McDonald would single home Gridley to tie the game 4-4.
After a Nick Allen single, Beck reached on Hensley's error and McDonald scored to take a 5-4 lead. This was followed by Hunter Hargrove reaching on Sierra's error, scoring Allen and taking a 6-4 lead.
The River Bandits would cut the deficit to one in the bottom of the seventh on a Seth Beer RBI single, but that's the closest it would come. Jesus Zambrano came on for a two-inning save to seal the victory.
The Bandits jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first inning, in part to a three-run home run off the bat of Jonathan Lacroix.
Allen kicked off the Snappers scoring in the third inning with an RBI triple, his fourth triple of the season that tied him with Logan Farrar for the team lead. His hit got the Snappers on the board trailing 4-1.
Jared Poché started for the Snappers and after the first inning, settled down and set a new career high with eight strikeouts.
Humberto Castellanos earned the loss, going two-thirds of an inning and giving up three earned runs in the fifth run seventh inning. River Bandits starter Enoli Paredes went six full innings and gave up two hits, one run and earned five strikeouts.
Wandisson Charles earned a hold when he pitched the seventh inning, surrendering just one run.
For Allen, he went 2-for-5 and notched his seventh multi-hit game in his last 13 games. As a team, the Snappers won just their 15th game of the season when the opponent scores first, sitting at 15-33 on the year.
Game four of this four-game split series will be Wednesday evening at 6:35 p.m. at Modern Woodman Park. Starting for the Snappers will be right-hander Wyatt Marks (3-6, 4.20). On the mound for the River Bandits will be right-hander Chad Donato (3-0, 0.41).
