Lake County Fielders News Release

KENOSHA, WI - The Lake County Fielders and Winnipeg Goldeyes played late into extra innings, with the Fielders winning 4-3 in 12 innings, their second consecutive walk-off victory.

Joe Ramos led off the bottom of the twelfth with a double down the left-field line. Brandon Anderson walked, then Amos Ramon lined a single to right, but Ramos was thrown out trying to score by right fielder Justin Justice.

Slugger Joshua Short was then walked intentionally to load the bases for Kevin Haas. Goldeyes reliever Chad Benefield struck him out to set the stage for designated hitter Aaron Cone, who lined a game-winning single off Benefield (0-2), to score Anderson, who also scored the game winner last night.

Both teams squandered solid outings from their starting pitchers. Fielders right-hander Zach Ward went seven innings, giving up three runs, only 2 of them earned, on seven hits, while striking out six.

His Winnipeg counterpart, Ace Walker, went 7 1/3 innings, and left with a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the eighth. With Ramon standing on first after a one-out single, Winnipeg manager Rick Forney chose to bring right-hander Phillip Roy in from the bullpen.

Short greeted Roy with a deep home run to right-center field, tying the game at three apiece. The home run was Short's eleventh of the season.

The two bullpens then traded scoreless innings into the twelfth, when the Fielders pushed the run across to win it.

Corey Bass pitched a perfect twelfth inning, with two strikeouts, to earn the win and improve to 2-0 on the season.

The Fielders and Goldeyes are in action again Tuesday night at 7:00 pm at Carthage College in Kenosha, WI. John Brownell will start for Lake County against Goldeyes' left-hander Antony Bello.
