Joliet JackHammers News Release
JOLIET, IL - The Joliet JackHammers are pleased to announce that New Lenox native and Lincoln Way Central grad, Josh Flores, has signed with the team. The JackHammers also announced the signing of pitcher Wes Alsup and infielder Ryan Wehrle.
Flores, 24, signs with the JackHammers after the starting the 2010 season with Lancaster (high A) in the Houston Astros organization. The outfielder was selected by the Astros in the 4th round of the 2005 June Amateur Draft out of Triton College in River Grove.
Flores rose quickly through the Astros system, reaching Double A Corpus Christi in 2007 at the age of 21. He hit .279 with seven home runs, 42 runs batted in and stole 39 bases in '07, split between Salem (high A) and Corpus Christi. Flores returned to Corpus Christi in 2009 after missing the entire 2008 season with injuries.
The Triton College product hit .514 and racked up 17 triples in 2005 with the Trojans, both single season records. Flores will be in uniform tonight when the JackHammers visit the Gary RailCats for the first time this season.
The JackHammers also announced the signing of right-hander reliever, Wes Alsup, and infielder Ryan Wehrle. The rookie appeared in 17 games this season for UT-Martin, closing a team high seven games. Alsup struck out 22 batters in 17 innings and compiled a 1-0 record with a 4.24 ERA.
Wehrle comes to Joliet in a trade for a player to be named later from River City in the Frontier League. The former Yankee farmhand played last season for Chad Parker in River City, earning a trip to the All-Star game. The University of Nebraska product hit .317 with four home runs and 37 RBI with 12 stolen bases.
Loose Gravel: The JackHammers currently have partial-season seats, mini-plan packages, group outings and individual tickets on sale.
