Burrus Impressive In Flyers Debut
June 28, 2010 - Northern League (NL)
Schaumburg Flyers News Release
The Flyers (14-22) dropped their first game this week as the Fielders (12-22) salvaged the finale 9-8 in Kenosha, WI.
Once again, Schaumburg got on the board first with a Tom Fitzgerald RBI groundout in the second. But the next few innings belonged to Lake County.
The Fielders put up three runs in the bottom of the inning on a Brian Higgins single followed by Amos Ramon's two run double into right center field.
The scoring continued with two more in the third and a fourth inning three run home run off the bat of Ramon to push the Fielders' lead to 8-1. The Lake County third baseman finished the game 2-5 with five RBI.
The Schaumburg bats woke up in the top of the fifth when newest Flyer Josh Burrus laced a double down the left field line. The center fielder finished his debut 3-5. Brandon Newton singled home Burrus and Travis Brown sent a double to deep right center to plate Newton. The Schaumburg shortstop scored on a Richard Mercado groundout to cut the Flyers' deficit to four.
Ben Reeser came in for starter Todd Moser (1-4), who lasted just 2.1 innings. Reeser kept the Flyers in the game with a solid outing, giving up just four hits in 3.2 frames.
In the bottom of the seventh, Schaumburg was threatening with runners on first and second and two outs. That's when Terry Mermer came to the rescue with a three run shot over the left field wall, cutting the Fielders' lead to one.
The Flyers tied the game in the eighth, but faltered in the ninth after Brian McFall was hit by Reid Price to start the inning. Brandon Anderson pinch ran and promptly stole second. Cody Strait came up and grounded out to first, moving Anderson to third. After Aaron Cone walked, Jeff Dunbar sent a fly ball to deep left, which plated the winning run.
Next up, the Flyers welcome the Kansas City T-Bones to Alexian Field for a four game set starting on Monday night.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM. Join Alex Perlman on 1410 WRMN and flyersbaseball.com for all the action as the Flyers take on the T-Bones. The Schaumburg Flyers Pregame Show gets rolling at 6:50 PM with the game to follow.
