Cruse Continues Stellar Campaign with Complete Game Victory
June 28, 2010 - Northern League (NL)
Kansas City Monarchs News Release
SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - Kansas City hurler Andrew Cruse (5-2) continued his dominating run through the Northern League Monday night with a complete-game victory as the T-Bones (22-16) defeated the Schaumburg Flyers (14-23), 3-2, at Alexian Field.
Cruse surrendered just two runs on nine hits in the win, his fifth of the season. The right-hander faced the minimum in six of his nine innings, thanks in part to a caught stealing and two Schaumburg double plays on the night. The Flyers touched Cruse for their first run in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Travis Brown, and plated their final tally in the eighth when Brown tripled with one out and later scored on an RBI single by Brandon Newton.
Cruse struck out five without surrendering a walk in the game. Despite allowing just two runs in his outing, Cruse saw his ERA increase from 1.20 to 1.33.
Schaumburg starter Brett Harker (1-5) retired the first eight batters he faced before surrendering a single to Jimmy Mojica in the third inning. Kansas City struck first in the contest with a two-run fourth, scoring their first run on a sacrifice fly by Jim Fasano. Dwayne White capped off the frame with an RBI double to give the T-Bones a 2-0 lead.
Keanon Simon pushed the score to 3-1 with an RBI single in the sixth inning. Harker took the loss after allowing three runs, two earned, on 10 hits in seven innings.
White and Mojica each finished three-for-four to pace the T-Bones offensive effort. Ray Sadler saw his 10-game hit streak end after a 0-for-five night.
The two teams face off again tomorrow night as Kansas City sends Reid Santos (1-3, 6.57) to face Ryan Gehring (2-2, 3.52) and the Flyers. First pitch is set for 7:00. Catch all the action through streaming webcast at www.tbonesbaseball.com or on the radio at KXTR 1660 AM.
