Calgary Hitmen News Release
Calgary, AB - The Western Hockey League announced today the 2022-23 Division nominees for the Doug Wickenheiser Memorial Trophy awarded annually to the WHL Humanitarian of the Year. Riley Fiddler-Schultz has been nominated for the award, being named the WHL Central Division winner.
The graduating forward has spearheaded various initiatives over his time with the Hitmen, using his platform to give back to the community. In November, Riley put on his annual Fiddler-Schultz Fills-A-Ford, a food drive outside of a local Safeway in Calgary. This year's event was one of the most successful yet, collecting over 800 lbs. of food and $2,500 which was donated to the Veterans Food Bank of Calgary. The program has now collected over 3,000 pounds of food and has raised over $5,000 dollars since it's inception in 2019.
This season, he also continued his Fidd's Friends program for a third year, which brought kids from the Trellis society (formerly Boys and Girls Club) to Hitmen games where he was able to provide autographs and meet with kids in the suite after games.
Fiddler-Schultz was the winner of the WHL Humanitarian of the year in 2020 and was the winner of the Hitmen Humanitarian of the Year Award this season for the third time in his career.
All individual WHL Division Award winners will be eligible for the overall WHL Awards, which will be announced from Tuesday, May 2 through Wednesday, May 10. The winner of the Doug Wickenheiser Memorial Trophy awarded to the WHL Humanitarian of the Year will be announced Thursday, May 4.
