Indiana Fever News Release

INDIANAPOLIS - The Indiana Fever has announced its 2010 Women's National Basketball Association schedule. Indiana will play 34 regular-season games including its home and season opener on Saturday, May 15 against the Washington Mystics (7:00 p.m.).

The defending Eastern Conference champion Fever opens its season with a pair of back-to-back dates on consecutive weekends. Following the home opener, Indiana plays at Atlanta on May 16. The following weekend, Indiana resumes its I-65 series with Chicago, playing on Saturday, May 22 in Chicago, and Sunday, May 23 against the Sky at Conseco Fieldhouse (6:00 p.m.).

Returning from a WNBA Finals appearance in 2009 and vying for its sixth consecutive playoff berth, the Fever enters the new season under the direction of third-year coach Lin Dunn. Playing in a 12-team WNBA, the Fever's schedule includes 22 games against the Eastern Conference and 12 against the West. The Fever will play four games apiece against Eastern foes Connecticut, New York and Washington; and square off against Atlanta and Chicago five times. Home and away games are scheduled against each of six Western Conference opponents.

For the first time, the WNBA has scheduled most games during a Thursday-to-Sunday window each week, hoping to capitalize on weekend crowds. ESPN2 will once again feature WNBA Tuesdays which account for most Tuesday games on the league schedule. Indiana will play 27 of 34 games during the Thursday-to-Sunday window; six Tuesday games will include two on ESPN2; and a lone Wednesday date features the Fever's annual Kids Day on July 14 (1:00 p.m.). The Fever plays three times on ESPN2, up from just one regular season appearance in 2009.

This year's schedule begins earlier than ever, allowing for a full playoffs schedule to conclude prior to the 2010 World Championships which begin September 23 in Czech Republic. Indiana's regular season schedule concludes Sunday, August 22 when the Fever hosts the Minnesota Lynx.

Fever schedule highlights for the upcoming season include:

* Indiana's home opener is Saturday, May 15 against the Washington Mystics, led by perennial All-Star Alana Beard. The opener pits Eastern Conference Semifinals opponents from last season. The Mystics are coached by former longtime Fever assistant coach Julie Plank.

* WNBA newcomer Tulsa appears twice on the Fever schedule as the former Detroit franchise moves to the Western Conference. The Fever travels to Tulsa for the first time on Saturday, May 29, and welcomes Tulsa to Indianapolis on Thursday, July 8 (7:00 p.m.).

* The Fever's three dates on ESPN2 include both meeting with the Los Angeles Sparks. Indiana's ESPN2 dates are Tuesday, June 29 at Washington; Thursday, July 22 against L.A.; and Tuesday, Aug. 10 at Los Angeles.

* Indiana's annual Kids Day game takes place on Wednesday, July 14 (1:00 p.m.) when the Connecticut Sun comes to town. This annual afternoon contest has annually drawn one of the Fever's largest crowds of the season.

* Indiana plays both dates of its WNBA Finals rematch with the Phoenix Mercury during a five-day, three-game stretch in August. Phoenix hosts Indiana in a Sunday afternoon contest on August 8. Five days later, after Indiana's ESPN2 date at L.A., Diana Taurasi and the Mercury visit Conseco Fieldhouse on Friday, Aug. 13 (7:00 p.m.).
