Connecticut Sun News Release

UNCASVILLE, Conn. (December 17, 2010) Three ESPN2 games highlight the 2010 schedule for the Connecticut Sun, which will open its eighth season with a home game against the Chicago Sky on May 15th at 3:30 p.m.

Six of Connecticut's first eight games are at home, including the first of four meetings with the Eastern Conference champion Indiana Fever on Friday, June 11th at 7:30 p.m. Diana Taurasi and the defending champion Phoenix Mercury visit Mohegan Sun Arena on Friday, June 25th at 7:30 p.m. while Sue Bird and the Seattle Storm visit on Friday, August 13th at 7:30 p.m. Candace Parker and the Los Angeles Sparks visit on Saturday, July 24th, at 7 p.m.

Connecticut plays five games each against the Washington Mystics and New York Liberty, two Eastern Conference rivals that will contend for the playoffs, and it will have just one back-to-back, playing July 6th at San Antonio and July 7th at Atlanta. Of Connecticut's 17 home games, 12 will be played on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Connecticut will appear on ESPN2 on July 6th at San Antonio, July 20th against New York and at Seattle on August 5th.

"It is exciting to be getting closer to the season," Connecticut Sun Vice President and General Manager Chris Sienko said. "The schedule is certainly favorable for our fans, and the team will have some fierce rivalries getting extra attention with five games against New York and Washington. We will also be challenged with a 23-day stretch away from home. All things considered, the season is right around the corner, and it doesn't get any better than that."

The Sun added veteran forward DeMya Walker to their roster during the dispersal draft for the Sacramento Monarchs on Monday, and the team owns the No. 2 overall pick in the 2010 WNBA Draft, which will be held next April. Connecticut will be seeking its seventh trip to the playoffs in eight years when the regular season opens in May.
