
Los Angeles Sparks Announce 2010 Schedule

LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles Sparks will tip off the 2010 WNBA season on May 15th against the defending WNBA Champion Phoenix Mercury at US Airways Center in Phoenix. Opening Day marks the third consecutive season the Sparks will open against the previous year's champion. The Sparks will return home to open at STAPLES Center against the Washington Mystics on Friday, May 28th at 7:30pm. The 2010 schedule features a host of nationally televised games and nine weekend games.
"We are very excited for the start of the 2010 WNBA season," said Sparks President Kristin Bernert. "We have an outstanding new coach and a great schedule that includes six nationally televised games. I know that the best fans in the WNBA, our MVPs, are as eager as we are to see our team back on the floor."
2010 will mark the 14th season for the Sparks, who will play on national television six times on ESPN2. Highlighting the Sparks' national television coverage is the season opener against the defending Champion Mercury and two match-ups with the 2009 Eastern Conference Champion Indiana Fever on July 22nd in Indiana and on August 10th in Los Angeles. The Sparks will announce a local television schedule in conjunction with PRIME TICKET at a later date.
Downtown Los Angeles will be sparkling with excitement on weekends at STAPLES Center this season as nine of the 17 regular season Sparks home games will be played on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. The Sparks will also hold their 11th annual Camp Day on July 20 at noon against the newly formed Tulsa franchise in their first visit to Los Angeles.
