FerryHawks Drop Series Finale against Lancaster on Marvel Super Hero Day
June 11, 2023 - Atlantic League (AtL)
Staten Island FerryHawks News Release
The Lancaster Barnstormers defeated the Staten Island FerryHawks by a score of 8-5 on Sunday afternoon in Staten Island. It was Marvel Super Hero Day at the ballpark and kids were greeted by a Spider-Man character appearance and a limited edition Marvel/FerryHawks poster! While Spider-Man is known for saving the day in New York City, he couldn't help the FerryHawks fend off the Barnstormers in this one.
With starter Ryan Hartman on the mound making his debut, the FerryHawks took a commanding lead early in this one. In the 1st, a Roldani Baldwin double drove in Ricardo Cespedes to put the FerryHawks on the board. In the 2nd, Cespedes and Jack Elliott both picked up RBI's to extend Staten Island's lead to 3-0 over Lancaster. Elliott came through again in the 4th when he doubled to drive home Cespedes, making it 4-0 FerryHawks.
Entering the 5th, it seemed as if the FerryHawks were in the driver's seat and on their way to a series victory. However, the Barnstormers had other plans as their bats quickly came to life, sparking a 6-run 5th inning that put them ahead 6-4. Two more insurance runs in the 6th and 8th extended their lead to 8-4 as they looked to wrap this one up. The FerryHawks made one last effort in 9th when Mikey Edelman crossed the plate on a Jack Elliott double, but the rally was cut short by the Barnstormers.
FerryHawks starter Ryan Hartman (0-1) had a final line of 5 Innings, 13 Hits, 6 Runs, and 3 Strikeouts. The 29-year-old lefty was acquired last from the Lake Country DockHounds of the American Association. He spent time in the Astros and Orioles organizations and has an MLB appearance to his name with the Astros. He will look to get right in his next start.
The FerryHawks will head out on the road before returning home for a 6-game home stand starting on June 20th! On Saturday June 24th the FerryHawks are set to kick-off summer with their "Kick-Off To Summer" celebration game followed by their first post-game firework show of the season.
