July 19, 2015 - Atlantic League (AtL)
Lancaster Stormers News Release
Anderson Feliz whacked a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning on Sunday afternoon to lead the Lancaster Barnstormers to a 3-2 victory over the York Revolution at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
With the win, the Barnstormers pushed ahead in the 2015 War of the Roses, 11 games to 10, and remained within one-half game of the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs in the Freedom Division.
With the score tied, 1-1, Luke Hughes picked up a one-out walk off reliever Tony Pena (0-2) in the seventh inning. One out later, Feliz, batting left-handed drove his third home run of the season into the bumper boat pond in right center for the 3-1 edge.
Kevin Rivers had doubled home Zach Collier with the game's first run in the bottom of the third inning. Lancaster failed to extend the lead in the fifth after loading the bases on an error by shortstop Mikey Reynolds and consecutive singles by Juan Apodaca and Feliz. Collier sent a fly ball to shallow right for the first out, and Hughes was doubled up at the plate. Brian Cavazos-Galvez lined to center to end the threat.
Shunsuke Watanabe carried a shutout into the seventh, but Yeicok lined a single into right on a full count pitch to open the inning. Andres Perez sent a shallow fly ball to left which dropped in front of the charging Kent Matthes. Calderon was able to race for third when the ball spun away from the Lancaster left fielder.
Scott Gracey took over and struck out Carlos Marquez for the first out. James Simmons tied the game with a single to center, but Reynolds grounded into a 6-3 double play to keep the game at 1-1.
It took a splendid performance by Pete Andrelczyk to hold the win. Gracey (4-0) departed after retiring the first batter in the eighth. Zach Jackson, making the final appearance of his 12-year pro career, was summoned. The lefty walked Eric Patterson and yielded a double to left by Brandon Boggs as York moved the tying runs into scoring position.
Bryan Pounds produced one run with a sacrifice fly, but Andrelczyk retired Calderon on a grounder to end the inning.
Andrelczyk hit pinch hitter Nick Ferdinand with one out in the ninth. Simmons again hit a sharp grounder to the middle of the diamond. Shortstop Lance Zawadzki flagged the ball but missed the second baseman Hughes with a backward flip, giving the Revs runners at the corners with one out. Reynolds hit a quick one-hopper at Feliz near third base, and he was able to chase down pinch runner Luis De La Cruz for the second out. Andrelczyk retired Alfredo Patino on a comebacker to end the game for his first save.
The Barnstormers are off on Monday and will travel to Texas late on Tuesday. They will open a six-game, five-day series against the Sugar Land Skeeters on Wednesday evening. Joe Gardner (3-2) will get the start for the Barnstormers against right-hander Josh Geer. Fans may tune into 1390-AM, WLAN; rumba1390.com or the I Heart Radio cell phone app, beginning at 6:45, EDT.
