Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release

BRIDGEPORT, Ct. - The Sugar Land Skeeters overcame three early errors that led to an unearned run to win 4-2 over the Bridgeport Bluefish, capping a seven-game roadtrip for the Skeeters. The win bolsters Sugar Land's record to 5-6 in the second half and 41-40 overall. Starting pitcher Tim Stauffer earned his first victory in a Skeeters uniform, scattering three hits for an unearned run with a pair of walks and five strikeouts.

Bridgeport opened the scoring in the bottom of the fourth, taking the initial lead following a pair of errors by Sugar Land. Welington Dotel singled and advanced to second on an error in left by Johan Limonta to open the frame. John Alonso lifted a fly ball to right, allowing Dotel to tag and advance to third before coming in to score on the same play with a throwing error by Kevin Russo in right.

After failing to record a hit in the first four innings of play, the Skeeters finally broke up DJ Mitchell's no hitter in the top of the fifth. Denny Almonte worked a walk in an eight-pitch at-bat to start the inning and swiped second to move into scoring position. The stolen base was the first by Sugar Land in the second-half of the season. Amadeo Zazueta followed his three-hit performance last night with an RBI double to tie the game at one. Russo and Limonta atoned for their earlier miscues with consecutive RBI singles to give Sugar Land the lead for good, 3-1.

The Skeeters would add an insurance run in the top of the eighth after a leadoff double from Chris Wallace. The backstop logged his 19th-double of the season and sixth in his last seven games to kick off the inning. The Houstonian swiped third and came in to score on a wild pitch, staking the Skeeters to a 4-1 lead.

Bridgeport answered the rally by Sugar Land in the bottom of the inning with a single from Josh Prince and a double from Bryant Nelson, but Adrian Martin limited the damage to just the run by picking up a strikeout and inducing a groundout to escape the jam.

Derrick Loop recorded his seventh-save of the season by scattering a one-out single in the bottom of the ninth, preserving the 4-2 victory for the Skeeters.
