
Patriots Take Rubber Match with 2-1 Victory

Central Islip, NY - The Somerset Patriots (6-5, 56-25) defeated the Long Island Ducks (5-5, 51-29) 2-1 Sunday evening at Bethpage Ballpark in the rubber match of the series.
In the top of the second inning right fielder Nate Spears ripped a RBI single to give Somerset a 1-0 advantage.
Catcher Mike Blanke blasted a home run (5) to even the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the second inning.
The Patriots retook the lead in the top of the fourth inning as designated hitter Michael Burgess slugged a home run (4) making the score 2-1.
Lucas Irvine earned the win (4-5) tossing seven innings while allowing one run. He struck out eight batters and scattered just five hits while walking just one. Darin Downs sustained the loss (0-1) going five innings while surrendering two runs. Jon Hunton recorded the save (21) pitching a scoreless final inning.
