Perez Sets Franchise Hits Record As Revs Drop Rubber Match In Lancaster

Andres Perez took over the all-time franchise record in hits but the York Revolution dropped the rubber match of their series against the Barnstormers, 3-2 in Lancaster on a blazing hot Sunday afternoon at Clipper Magazine Stadium. The Revs fall to 4-6 in the second half, and will look to rebound as they travel to Long Island to open a four-game series on Monday night.

Perez took over the all-time lead, smashing a single past the diving attempt of third baseman Anderson Feliz with one out in the fifth, moving past James Shanks with his 384th hit in a York uniform. It was one of few offensive highlights for the Revs on the day, however.

Lancaster scored the game's first run in the bottom of the third inning. Zach Collier looped a single to left with one out and stole second base to set the table. With two outs, Kevin Rivers yanked an RBI double to right for a 1-0 Barnstormers lead.

Lancaster had a chance to blow the game open in the fifth inning, loading the bases with no outs. Revs starter Matt Neil rebounded, however, inducing a fly ball to right by Collier with Luke Hughes thrown out by right fielder Eric Patterson as he was attempting to score. Neil then retired Brian Cavazos-Galvez on a line out to center, keeping it a 1-0 game.

York struggled to get anything going against submarine off-speed specialist Shunsuke Watanabe, who took a shutout into the seventh. The Revs chased Watanabe as Yeicok Calderon led off with a single to right, and Perez blooped a single to shallow left with Calderon aggressively taking third base with no outs. Reliever Scott Gracey notched a strikeout for the first out of the inning, but James Simmons came through with a single up the middle, tying the game at 1-1.

Lancaster went back in front in the bottom of the seventh as Feliz connected on a two-out, two-run homer to right-center off reliever Tony Pena (0-2), splashing into the bumper boat pool to give the Barnstormers a 3-1 lead.

The Revs rallied in the eighth as Eric Patterson drew a one-out walk and Brandon Boggs pulled a double down the left field line against lefty Zach Jackson who was making the final appearance of his pro career. Bryan Pounds then greeted right-hander Pete Andrelczyk with a sac fly on a line drive to center, cutting the deficit to 3-2 and giving Pounds 10 RBI in his last six games.

The Revs pieced together the makings of a ninth inning comeback but were unable to cash in. Pinch-hitter Nick Ferdinand reached on a hit-by-pitch with one out. Simmons then smoked a grounder up the middle that shortstop Lance Zawadski snagged with a sliding pick, but an errant flip toward second allowed pinch-runner Luis De La Cruz to advance all the way to third. De La Cruz was caught off third base, however, on a ground ball to third by Mikey Reynolds, as a rundown resulted in the second out. Andrelczyk then retired Alfredo Patino on a grounder back to the mound to complete the five-out save.

Notes: York falls to 10-11 in the season's War of the Roses series. Carlos Marquez made his York debut at catcher and threw out Zawadski on a stolen base attempt in the second and also picked off Rivers at second base in the third. Southpaw Ron Schreurs fired a perfect sixth and has now retired all six batters faced with York; he began his outing by striking out Rivers, giving him four consecutive strikeouts to begin his Revs career. With a two-hit game, Perez now holds the Revs all-time hits record with 385 total knocks. With 602 total bases, he is three shy of tying Scott Grimes for that franchise record. As a team, the Revs were just 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position and 3-for-23 in that category over the three-game series. York lefty Rommie Lewis (6-7, 3.61) will face Ducks right-hander John Brownell (7-2, 2.92) in Monday's opener at 6:35 p.m. in Central Islip, NY.
