Feisty Knicks Burn Through Skyforce in Series Win
February 5, 2016 - NBA G League (G League)
Westchester Knicks News Release
WHITE PLAINS - The Westchester Knicks (18-12), the official NBA Development League affiliate of the New York Knickerbockers, defeated the league-leading Sioux Falls Skyforce (22-7), the Miami Heat affiliate, taking the season series 3-1 with a 95-91 win at home tonight.
Westchester came out of the gate hot, taking advantage of 25 percent shooting from Sioux Falls to run up as much as a 17-point lead over the visitors in the first. The heat was flowing from downtown, the Knicks hitting 3-of-3 from beyond the arc, to head into the second quarter with a hefty 30-17 advantage.
Beginning to warm up in the second, the Skyforce got some needed help with nine points from forward Rodney McGruder to avoid the lead widening past 19. However, Westchester guard Jordon Crawford answered back with a 12-point quarter including a buzzer-beating jumper to send the Knicks into the locker room with a 61-47 lead.
Sioux Falls began the third quarter on a 14-2 run to pull within two of Westchester, followed by a 6-0 route to tie up the game. Forward Jarnell Stokes gave the Skyforce a much-needed boost with 12 points, while the most any Knicks player could muster was four. Westchester found their lead cut to five heading into the fourth.
The sold-out Westchester County Center crowd was treated to a thriller in the final quarter as the teams tied it up six times, trading four leads. Tying it up for the final time with 1:12 on the clock, Knicks big Jordan Bachynski nailed a hook shot with the assist from Travis Trice II to then take the lead. Trice hit two free throws while a Bachynski block at the very end sealed the deal as Westchester took the season series 3-1 over Sioux Falls with a 95-91 win.
Travis Trice II lead Westchester in the win with a team-high 20 points, also supplying six assists. Jordon Crawford's impressive bench performance culminated with 16 points, five assists, and four rebounds. Jordan Bachynski finished with 15 points, seven rebounds, and three blocks.
Jarnell Stokes finished with a game-high 21 points, adding 15 rebounds for the double-double. Rodney McGruder added 19 points with seven rebounds. Keith Benson just missed a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds, Jabril Trawick also coming close with 15 points and eight rebounds.
The Westchester Knicks will travel to Maine to take on the Red Claws, the Boston Celtics affiliate, for a 7:00 p.m. matchup tomorrow, Feb. 6, 2016. The game will be broadcast live on MSG Network and on the NBA Development League's YouTube channel.
