5 Things to Know about #FCDvLA
Luchi's First Win
Following last weekend's tie with the New England Revolution in the home opener, FC Dallas has the chance to claim Luchi Gonzalez's first win as head coach on Saturday afternoon against the LA Galaxy. On average, it has taken new FC Dallas coaches 2.3 games to register their first win as head coach.
Captains
FC Dallas head coach Luchi Gonzalez has instituted a new system for choosing the team's captain. Gonzalez believes that his team has three main leaders in the locker room: Carlos Gruezo, Reto Ziegler and Matt Hedges. The captain's armband will change among the three depending on the game and starting lineup.
Youth is Served
During MLS' Opening Weekend, Dallas and LA played three of the seven youngest players who saw action in MLS' Week 1. FCD's Paxton Pomykal (7th - 19 years, 2 months, 13 days) and Jesus Ferreira (3rd - 18 years, 2 months, 6 days) came off the bench in the season opener vs New England. LA's Efrain Alvarez (1st - 16 years, 8 months, 12 days) made his MLS debut, assisted on Daniel Steres' equalizer and played a role in Zlatan Ibrahimovic's game-winner in the Galaxy's 2-1 result over Chicago. Ibrahimovic, by contrast, was the oldest field player to see action at 37 years and 5 months of age. Ferreira remains the fourth youngest player to appear in MLS all-time, making his debut in 2017 at 16 years, 5 months and 11 days old.
Against the Galaxy
FC Dallas has won five matches and drawn one in league play since it last lost to the Galaxy in the 2015 season. Last season, FCD beat LA in both meetings, winning 3-2 in each match. At home, Dallas is 20-9-7 against LA and 27-33-12 all-time against its Western Conference foe.
About the Galaxy
LA posted a 2-1 come-from-behind win against Chicago last week and sits at 1-0-0. The Galaxy also have a new head coach this season as the club tapped Guillermo Barros Schelotto to lead the team on January 2, 2019.
