
Earthquakes Defender Marcos Lopez Called to the Peruvian National Team

SAN JOSE, Calif. - San Jose Earthquakes defender Marcos López has been called to the Peru National Team for their upcoming friendlies against Paraguay and El Salvador on March 22 and March 26, respectively. At 19 years old, Lopez is the youngest player to be called by head coach Ricardo Gareca.
Lopez was acquired from Sporting Cristal Lima on Jan. 6, 2019 using Targeted Allocation Money. He started and played the full 90 minutes against the Montreal Impact in the season opener last Saturday.
Lopez has represented Peru extensively at the U-20 level, including at two South American U-20 Championships, while being the youngest member of the team in 2017. He has one prior cap for the senior national team, making his debut at 18 years old against Germany last September.
