FC Dallas Ties Houston Dynamo 1-1

Today's contest marked the 14th time in 15 seasons FC Dallas has opened the season at home. FC Dallas is now 6-4-4 all-time on opening day and 7-4-3 in home openers.

FC Dallas (0-0-1, 1 pt) tied in-state rival the Houston Dynamo (0-0-1, 1 pt) 1-1.

FC Dallas is now 2-7-6 all-time against Houston and 2-2-4 at home against the Dynamo.

This was the first leg of the battle for El Capitán with the second leg to be played on May 5 at Robertson Stadium. The game at Houston will determine which team will be awarded the 19th-century cannon for the season.

Atiba Harris scored his third goal in a FC Dallas uniform and first of the season in the 38th minute when he made a curling shot past Houston goalkeeper Pat Onstad.

David Ferreira earned his first assist of the season when he slotted the ball to an on-rushing Atiba Harris.

Defender Kyle Davies left in the 55th minute with a right arm injury, replacing him was rookie Eric Alexander. It was Alexander's MLS debut after being drafted by FC Dallas in January.

Tyler, TX native Daniel Hernandez wore the captain's armband for FC Dallas today in his second season with the team.

Goalkeeper Dario Sala and midfielders Dax McCarty and David Ferreira are the only players to start both the 2009 and 2010 home openers. Dallas defender Ugo Ihemelu was a game-day scratch due to a left leg injury, second-year defender Kyle Davies started in his place. Midfielder Marvin Chavez also missed the home opener due to a right knee MCL strain.

Today's attendance was 8,016.
