January 13, 2020 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
FC Dallas News Release
Frisco, Texas - FC Dallas has signed defender Eddie Munjoma as the league-leading 27th Homegrown Player, the club announced today. He will be under contract through 2022 season with club options for the 2023, 2024 and 2025 seasons.
"Eddie is part of a special generation of players in this country, ranging from ages 17-23, because the Academy kicked off at the right time," said FC Dallas president Dan Hunt. "He is also the first FC Dallas Academy product to get a college education while playing soccer all four years, graduate and then sign a contract. This moment is something my brother and I have been talking about, so it's special to have him join FC Dallas."
Munjoma, 21, played all four seasons at Southern Methodist University, scoring 12 goals and adding 22 assists in 66 appearances. During his time at SMU, Munjoma was named to Top Drawers Soccer's Top 11 honors in 2015, East Region First Team Selection by United Soccer Coaches and to the All-America list College Soccer News in 2019, as well as, AAC defensive player of the year after being part of the SMU backline that allowed just 0.78 goals per game, 16th fewest in the nation. He was also a 2019 MAC Hermann semifinalist, an accolade won by current head coach Luchi Gonzalez in 2001.
"It feels amazing coming back to the club where I grew as a player and grew as a man," Munjoma said. "Obviously, I wanted to wait to finish school and get an education but it's an exciting homecoming and I'm looking forward to getting started."
Munjoma joined the FC Dallas Academy in 2011 and led the FC Dallas U-16 Academy team to the 2015 US Soccer Development Academy National Championship.
The FC Dallas Academy has now produced 37 professional players signed by the FC Dallas organization.
