Houston Dynamo Select GK Duncan Turnbull and FW Kyle Edwards in MLS SuperDraft

HOUSTON - The Houston Dynamo selected goalkeeper Duncan Turnbull and forward Kyle Edwards in the second day of the MLS SuperDraft this afternoon.

Turnbull was selected with the 18th selection (No. 70 overall) in Round 3 from the University of Notre Dame. The goalkeeper was named ACC Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 28 after finishing with five saves and his third clean sheet of the year against Wake Forest. The Geneva, Illinois native reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA postseason tournament after he made two crucial saves in the penalty kick shootout against Michigan in the Round of 32.

Edwards was drafted with the eighth selection (No. 86 overall) in Round 4 and the forward finished his collegiate career at the University of Texas - Rio Grande Valley ranked second in career goals with 21 and career points with 49. The forward signed a contract with Rio Grande Valley FC, Houston's hybrid affiliate in the USL Championship, on Jan. 7 and the Dynamo will retain his MLS rights. Edwards featured in 34 games for the Vaqueros from 2018-2019 and was named to the All-WAC First Team in back-to-back seasons. Following his breakout junior year with UTRGV, the forward was named WAC Preseason Player of the Year and named to the Hermann Trophy Watch List.

Edwards joined Brazos Valley Cavalry FC last summer where he scored 15 goals and tallied three assists in 13 appearances. Edwards was co-winner of the 2019 USL League Two Golden Boot with 15 goals. The 22-year-old brings international experience to the club with 15 senior caps for the Saint Vincent and Grenadines National Team. Edwards made his debut in a 4-0 victory over Anguilla on Sept. 5, 2014 in the Caribbean Cup Qualification tournament.

With today's selections in the MLS SuperDraft, Houston has selected the following players: Garrett McLaughlin (No. 8 overall) in Round 1; Luka Prpa (No. 34 overall) in Round 2; Turnbull (No. 70 overall) in Round 3; and Edwards (No. 86 overall) in Round 4.

Today's draft picks will be invited to preseason camp, which begins on Jan. 20 at Houston Sports Park.
