Birmingham Barons News Release

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Barons claimed a 2-1 win over the Suns on get-away day Wednesday in Jacksonville, Fla. Third baseman Jeremy Farrell's two-run home run proved to provide the game-winning run in the top of the seventh inning.

Starting pitcher Tyler Danish improved to 3-0 with the victory while reliever Raul Fernandez picked up his second save of the year. Danish allowed just one run over six innings of work, struck out eight, and was followed up by three shutout innings provided by Miguel Chalas and Fernandez.

Birmingham found itself in a 1-0 hole in the bottom of the fourth inning. Jacksonville catcher Sharif Othman put the Suns on the board with an RBI single to right. It was the only run allowed by Danish, as he lowered his ERA to 2.86 in his fourth start.

Trailing going into the seventh, the Barons mounted their comeback on just one hit. Christian Marrero found his way on base via a walk, and Farrell gave a Kendry Flores pitch a ride to opposite field to give Birmingham its two runs. The homer was Farrell's second of the season.

Chalas replaced Danish at the beginning of the seventh and pitched two innings in relief. The right-hander struck out one and gave way to Fernandez to close it out in the ninth. Fernandez struck out the side to secure the victory.

Of Birmingham's five hits, Jacob May had two. Farrell's home run was the lone extra-base hit of the afternoon. Tim Anderson and Joey DeMichele had the remaining two hits. Both DeMichele and May have hit safely in their last six games, tied for the team's longest current hitting streak.

The team returns to Birmingham April 30 to host the Tennessee Smokies for a five-game series. Home stand highlights include Thirsty Thursday, NASCAR Night featuring an appearance from Bobby Allison, a Babe Ruff gnome giveaway, kids t-shirt giveaway, an appearance by former Braves catcher Charlie O'Brien and Autism Friendly Day.
