Mississippi Braves News Release

Mobile, AL - The Mississippi Braves lost both ends of Wednesday morning's doubleheader against the Mobile BayBears, dropping Tuesday's suspended game 6-1 before falling in the back-end 4-3.

The Braves (9-9) trailed 3-0 when play resumed in the second inning on Wednesday.  They started to stage a comeback in the third, putting the first two men on base in Emerson Landoni singled and Steve Rodriguez walked.  Landoni was picked off at second, starter Greg Ross laid down a sacrifice bunt and Matt Lipka drove in Rodriguez with an RBI single-extending his hit streak to 11 games-to cut the deficit to 3-1.

That's as close as the Braves came.  Mobile pulled away with a two-run home run in the fourth from first baseman Rudy Flores.  Then in the sixth, Brandon Drury doubled, moved to third on a groundout and scored on a Flores sacrifice fly to center for a 6-1 lead.

Flores finished the game with two hits and four RBI, while Drury went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three runs scored.

Yoan Lopez (1-2) picked up the win for the BayBears (12-7) in game one, throwing five relief innings with a run on five hits and four walks.  Jake Brigham (1-2) suffered the loss, allowing three runs, one earned, on four hits on Tuesday night before the rain came.

In the late game, Mississippi had a 3-1 lead evaporate in the sixth frame of a seven-inning game.  Third baseman Raul Navarro hit a one-out double and scored when Ronnie Freeman singled off closer Ryan Kelly (BS, 1) to tie the game 3-3.

The next batter Ryan Gebhardt reached on an error at second base, and late defensive addition Mitch Haniger singled home Freeman, the go-ahead run, for a 4-3 lead.

Kelly (0-1) suffered his first blown save and the loss, while Will Locante (1-0) picked up the win with a scoreless two innings.

The Braves erased an early 1-0 deficit with a three-run third.  Rio Ruiz and Loman singled with two out in the inning, and David Rohm scored Ruiz with a knock to tie the game 1-1.  A batter later, catcher Chris O'Dowd hit a two-run double for a 3-1 lead.

Mobile made it 1-0 in the first on an RBI single from Socrates Brito.  They pulled it to 3-2 with a Ryan Gebhardt RBI single in the fourth.

After the four-game sweep on the road, the Braves return home for a 16-game homestand starting with a five-game series against the Montgomery Biscuits of the Tampa Bay Rays organization.  Right-hander Jason Hursh (0-1, 7.04) takes the hill in Thursday night's opener against right-hander Jaime Schultz (2-0, 1.74), with first pitch slated for 7:00 PM CT at Trustmark Park.
