Fantastic Finish at the BI-LO Center Means a Win by the Grrrowl

GREENVILLE, SC – The Greenville Grrrowl are back on the winning track after a 4-3 shootout victory over the Columbus Cottonmouths Sunday afternoon in front of 4,857 at the BI-LO Center.

After spotting Columbus a 1-0 lead on a first period goal by Jerome Bechard (2:30), the Grrrowl rallied with a pair of second period goals from MIKE HENDERSON (10:00) and MATT DEMARSKI (13:05) to take a 2-1 lead. Brent Cullaton tied the game at, 2-2 with a powerplay goal at 18:13 of the second period. The team's exchanged goals in the third period, when DEMARSKI gave Greenville a 3-2 lead at 7:58, and John Morlang tied it at 3-3 with 5:22 remaining in the third period.

MARTIN MASA would score the only goal Greenville needed in the shootout as goaltender MICHAEL GARNETT stopped all 4 shooters he faced. GARNETT finished with 31 saves as Greenville outshot Columbus 40-34.

After the game, Greenville Grrrowl Head Coach JOHN MARKS learned he is losing the services of MIKKO SIVONEN who has decided to finish his season in Finland, and fulfill a military obligation in the process. Sivonen, who recorded 16-17-33 points in 39 games, was suspended by the Grrrowl Sunday afternoon.
