Anchorage Goes Home Empty

Alaska Aces News Release
SAN DIEGO, California â R.J. Enga registered a hat trick as San Diego built a 4-0 lead for the second straight night in cruising to an 8-2 thumping of Anchorage in front of 10,050 Saturday at the San Diego Sports Arena.
The game remained scoreless for more than six minutes, until R.J. Enga snapped a one-timer past last-minute starter Ryan Person for a 1-0 San Diego lead at 6:25. Trevor Sherban wheeled and blasted home a loose puck from between the circles to make it 2-0 and when Sylvain Deschatalets scored less than two minutes later, the Gulls had once again put the Aces in a huge hole. Anchorage stayed in the game by killing a pair of San Diego power plays late in the first period, including a two-man advantage for 55 seconds. Person, who finished with 25 saves, started only because Christian Soucy was sidelined with back spasms just prior to the opening face-off.
Sandro Sbrocca gave the Gulls a 4-0 lead only 2:38 into the second period before Paul Williams broke the ice for the Aces at the 8:15 mark. Williams now sits at 499 points for his WCHL career, and can become only the fourth player in league history to reach the 500 plateau next week at Sullivan Arena. Trent Clark, Enga, and Dean Tiltgen scored later in the second period as San Diego pushed the spread to 7-1 heading into the final 20 minutes. Enga finished off his hat trick just 23 seconds into the third period, when Anchorage outshot the Gulls 13-6 and made the score a little more respectable as Jason Boily picked up his first point as a pro with an assist on Eric Landry's third goal of the year at 11:34.
The Aces (10-28-2 overall) are just 1-11-1 in their last 13 games as they head back home for a three-game series against Fresno, beginning Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. and continuing with Friday and Saturday night contests at 7:00 p.m. All games are broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM and at www.anchorageaces.com or www.kfqd.com, with Jack Michaels calling the play-by-play. Coverage begins 20 minutes prior to the opening face-off, presented by GCI.
