Fresno Falcons News Release

LAS VEGAS - Fresno Falcons forward Sam Ftorek forced overtime with his 10th of the year in the third period, and Brett Jaeger made 27 saves plus five more stops in the shootout to help lead Fresno to a 2-1 shootout win over the Las Vegas Wranglers at The Orleans Arena.

After a scoreless first period, Las Vegas took a 1-0 lead on the power play 13:34 into the second. The Falcons turned the puck over just inside their own blueline, which led to a Wranglers chance right on the doorstep. Jaeger made an initial save, but Darren Lynch swept in the rebound to give Las Vegas a slim edge heading to the third.

Fresno tied the game mid-way through the third off a great individual effort by Ftorek. In his first game back following knee surgery, Ftorek skated into the slot with a Wrangler draped all over him and still managed to fire the puck toward the Las Vegas net. Wranglers goaltender Sebastien Centomo got most of the puck with his blocker, but not enough as the puck rolled just over the goal line at 8:40 of the third.

The teams then finished regulation and the ensuing five-minute overtime period still tied at one. In the shootout, Jaeger was a perfect five-for-five and Shaun Sutter scored for Fresno to deliver the shootout victory.

The fourth-place Falcons move six points ahead of the idle Idaho Steelheads in the West Division standings with a mark of 33-18-7 and 73 points.

Fresno now returns home to host the Bakersfield Condors at Save Mart Center both tomorrow and Sunday. Tomorrow's game begins at 7 p.m., when the first 2,500 fans in attendance will receive a John Wroblewski Bobblehead courtesy of Citizen's Business Bank.
