Alaska Aces News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. â In a game marred by 149 minutes in penalties, Guy Dupuis, playing his 1,000th professional game snapped a 1-1 tie early in the third period as Bakersfield ended Alaska's 13-game unbeaten streak with a 3-1 victory before 6,811 Friday at the newly christened Rabobank Arena.
The teams engaged in a slugfest for much of the first two periods, with a combined 82 PIM, six majors, and three game misconducts. After not having played since February 23, Mike Clarke scored the first goal of his professional career on a one-timer set up by Mike Scott at 6:28 of the opening period, giving the Aces a 1-0 lead at intermission despite a 17-8 edge in shots for the Condors. Bakersfield finally tied the game when Lars Peder Nagel jammed a loose puck by Alaska starter Peter Aubry at 6:43 of the second period.
The eventual game-winner came on an innocuous-looking play, as Dupuis scooped up a loose puck along the right half-boards and blasted a slap shot by Aubry with 17:15 left in regulation from a tough angle. Connor James added an insurance goal for the Condors at 9:27, a power play tip-in and his third in two games this year against the Aces, who were outshot 43-19, including 15-5 in the third period.
Alaska finished the game with 87 PIM, five majors, and four game misconducts, while Bakersfield countered with 62 PIM, four majors, and two game misconducts. The Aces, who suffered their first road loss since December 12 and their first of any kind since a 4-2 home defeat at the hands of the Condors February 5, will likely be without Keith McCambridge for the remainder of their road trip, after the captain left the bench to tangle with Bakersfield enforcer Ashlee Langdone late in the final period.
Alaska (36-16-7) will take the three-hour bus ride down to Long Beach for tomorrow night's clash with the third-place Ice Dogs on KFQD at 6:00 p.m. AST. The Aces will complete their final three-games-in-three-nights weekend of the season Sunday in San Diego at 4:00 p.m. AST, a game that can be watched on a pay-per-view basis at www.alaskaaces.com, courtesy of B2 Networks.
All Alaska games are broadcast live on KFQD, with coverage beginning 20 minutes prior to the opening face-off. For information on purchasing 2005-06 season tickets, please call 258-ACES. After meeting Fresno March 15 at 6:00 p.m. AST, the Aces return to Rabobank Arena, originally known as Centennial Garden, next Friday and Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. AST to finish up their six-game road trip.
