Falcons Lose 1-0 in Overtime

Bridgeport, CT - The Springfield Falcons were shutout 1-0 by the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Wednesday night at the Webster Bank Arena.
The teams skated to a scoreless first period with Falcons netminder Niklas Treutle stopping all 17 shots. Bridgeport goaltender JF Berube stopped six shots. Each team had a power play which was unsuccessful.
Much like the first period, neither team could score in the second frame. Treutle turned aside 10 shots while Berube made 11 saves in the stanza. Each team was awarded one power play in the period but could not score.
The goaltenders didn't allow a goal in the third period with the game being forced to overtime. Treutle made 12 saves while Berube stopped eight. Bridegeport outshot the Falcons 39-25 in regulation. In the overtime, Mike Halmo fired a slap shot past Treutle for his seventh of the season to win the game 1-0. The goal, scored at 2:25, was assisted by Ryan Pulock and Alan Quine. Treutle made 40 saves as his record moved to 8-11-3. Berube made 26 saves in the shutout to improve his record to 2-1-0.
The Falcons faceoff against the Providence Bruins at the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. The following night, the team returns to the MassMutual Center for a 7:00 p.m. contest against the Portland Pirates.
