
Falcons Host Bruins Tonight

GAME PREVIEW - The Springfield Falcons and Providence Bruins meet for the fourth time this season when they get together at the MassMutual Center on Friday evening. The Falcons are 1-2 against the Bruins this season and these two teams haven't met in Springfield since October 15 when Providence beat Springfield 4-1 in their home opener.
The Falcons enter tonight's action having won two of their last three games as they conclude their 2011 home schedule this evening. Springfield will end the 2011 calendar year in Hartford on Saturday for a special 5 pm New Year's Eve starting time against the Connecticut Whale.
The Bruins enter Friday's contest looking to snap a two-game losing streak after they won four straight games from December 11-December 18. Providence will be in Manchester, NH on New Year's Eve to conclude their 2011 calendar year.
BYERS BACK WITH FALCONS - The Falcons announced on Friday that captain Dane Byers was assigned to Springfield by the Columbus Blue Jackets. Byers was originally recalled by Columbus on December 12 and he appeared in three games for the Blue Jackets picking up seven penalty minutes. In 23 games with the Falcons this year, he has seven goals and nine assists for 16 points and 63 penalty minutes. Byers leads Springfield in penalty minutes and is fifth in scoring.
COSTELLO SIGNS PTO - The Falcons announced Monday that forward Chad Costello has been signed to a Professional Tryout Agreement. Costello made his Falcons debut on Wednesday night in Syracuse. Costello has appeared in 29 games for the ECHL's Colorado Eagles this season collecting 16 goals and 32 assists for 48 points. His 48 points not only led the Eagles in scoring, but he also ranked first in the entire ECHL in points heading into this week's action. Costello led the Central Hockey League's Tulsa Oilers in scoring during the 2010-11 campaign posting 34 goals and 50 assists for 84 points in only 54 regular season games. He made his AHL debut as a member of the Lake Erie Monsters last year collecting one assist in eight games.
FALCONS PLAYER NOTES - With his assist Wednesday night, Cam Atkinson extended his scoring streak to seven straight games and he has also moved into 5th in the AHL in rookie scoring. Atkinson has 15 goals and 10 assists for 25 points in 28 games and he continues to lead the Falcons in goals. He has scored a goal in two of his last three contests..Manny Legace has started the last eight straight games for the Falcons posting a .935 save percentage stopping 200 of 214 shots on goal in that stretch. Legace has moved into 7th in the league with a 2.27 goals against average and for the season he has a .921 save percentage.
BRUINS PLAYER NOTES
The Providence Bruins announced Wednesday that the club has signed center Bobby Robins to a Professional Tryout Agreement. Robbins, of Peshtigo, WI has spent this season with the Abbotsford Heat and the Chicago Express (ECHL). In 28 games for Chicago, Robins has registered seven goals and eight assists and leads the team in penalty minutes with 123. Robins, in his sixth professional season, has made stops in various AHL and ECHL cities including Binghamton, Elmira, Rochester, Albany and Syracuse. The centerman jumped the pond in 2008 to play for the Belfast Giants of the EIHL and then Jesenice in Austria the following season. In 105 AHL games over four seasons, Robbins has registered 11+11=22 totals.
The Bruins also announced Monday that the club has signed forward Daniel Koger to a Professional Tryout Agreement. Koger, of Szekesfehervar, Hungary, has split time this season between the St. John's IceCaps and the Cincinnati Cyclones (ECHL). In 14 games for Cincinnati, Koger has registered five goals and six assists. Koger is in his second professional season in North America. The right wing spent his rookie season with the Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League, skating in 64 games and finishing third on the team in scoring with 52 points (29g, 23a). Prior to making his professional debut in North America, Koger played two seasons in the Austrian Hockey League.
