Gustafsson Loaned to Phantoms

The Adirondack Phantoms have announced that defenseman Erik Gustafsson has been sent to the team on loan from the Philadelphia Flyers according to Philadelphia general manager Paul Holmgren. He will be eligible to play in Friday night's game vs. Portland.

Gustafsson, 23 (12/15/1988), comes to Glens Falls for the second time this season. He played with the Phantoms from October 8 through October 26 appearing in eight games and recording four assists.

He was called up to Philadelphia at the end of October and appeared in five games with one assist. His last game was November 5. Gustafsson had surgery on his wrist in November and has been on the shelf since that time.

The native of Kvisselby, Sweden finished second on Adirondack in scoring in 2010-11 with 49 points, trailing Denis Hamel by just one point. He led the team with 44 assists.

The smooth skating product of Northern Michigan University represented Adirondack at the AHL All-Star Classic and won the puck-handling contest in the skills competition. He was also named to the post-season AHL All-Rookie squad.

He also played in three games with the Flyers last year, making his NHL debut on February 25 at Ottawa. Gustafsson joined the Flyers organization at the end of the 2009-10 NCAA season and played five games with Adirondack of April, 2010 in his professional debut season.
