Fresno Falcons News Release

BOISE, Idaho – The Fresno Falcons fell to the Idaho Steelheads, 3-2 in a shootout, on Friday night at the Bank of America Centre in Boise.

Fresno's Colin Embley kicked off the scoring with his 21st of the season from linemates Brad Both and Jordan Landry at 4:02 of the first, and the Falcons kept their 1-0 lead the rest of the frame.

Idaho re-asserted themselves in the second period with a pair of goals 10 minutes apart. Adam Copeland scored unassisted at 4:19 off a blast from the point, and Scott Burt gave his club a 2-1 lead when he sent a puck by Falcons goaltender Terry Friesen from between the circles at 14:19. Fresno responded quickly, though, as Landry fed defenseman Jason McBain, who beat Idaho netminder Blair Allison top shelf with a backhand for his fifth of the season at 17:04, and the teams headed to the third deadlocked at two.

Neither club lit the lamp in the final period as McBain's goal ended up serving as the game-tying tally. In the shootout Cory Murphy gave Fresno a brief 1-0 lead, but Allison shut the door the rest of the way, stopping the final four shooters he faced. Dampy Brar and Dan Schermerhorn both beat Friesen to secure the two points for the league's first-place team.

With the shootout point the Falcons' record now stands at 29-20-6 with 64 points, still fourth in the league.

Fresno and Idaho play the second of a three-game set tomorrow night as the Falcons continue their current 11-game road swing. All of the live play-by-play action can be heard on 103.1 FM, The Mountain Cat, beginning at 5:50 p.m. PST with the Mail Boxes, Etc. Pre-game Show.
