Statement from Men O\' War GM Tim Woodburn
February 28, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Burlington News Release
"Previously, the Lexington Men O' War announced an "existing deadline" of March 1, 2003 to secure the equivalency of 1,200 season tickets for the 2003-04 East Coast Hockey League season.
"Our campaign has received a very good response from individuals and businesses in the community. As of Thursday, February 27th, we have received pledges for 800 "cash" season tickets.
"Obviously, with the ice storm that devastated many business operations in Central Kentucky, our pledge campaign came to a screeching halt as well for a period of one week.
"All ECHL franchises have to indicate to the ECHL by April 1st of their intent to operate in a market for the 2003-04 season. Therefore, considering our drive's momentum and the near shutdown of the community for a week, we have extended and secured a deadline with the ECHL League office, our owners and Rupp Arena of March 26, 2003 to obtain the remaining 400 season ticket pledges for next season. This will allow us to comply with the April 1st ECHL deadline.
"Our business plan for the secure existence of the franchise requires 1,200 season tickets and a total average paid attendance of about 3,000 fans. As this franchise was launched in 60 business days last summer, we believe that a full and complete off-season of ticket and promotional sales can be attained in this market at that level.
"Since February 1st, other than the week of the ice storm, we have sold between 26 and 71 season tickets per day on every business day of the month. We will need 22 per day for every business day until April 1st to reach our goal.
"We have put a tremendous winning product on the ice at Rupp Arena this season, and we are gaining ground on becoming a winning product off the ice as well. However, we are counting on the support of Central Kentucky in the next month to pledge their support in the form of a season ticket, a collection of ticket vouchers, which can be used at any game or in the form of a group night by an organization or business. All of these will help reach our goal of the equivalency of 1,200 season tickets by March 26th.
My best regards,
Tim Woodburn
