RiverBlades Clinch Playoff Spot

February 28, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Arkansas RiverBlades News Release

With their 4-3 victory over the Pensacola Ice Pilots Thursday, the Arkansas RiverBlades clinched a spot in the Kelly Cup Playoffs for the first time since the 2000-200' season.

The RiverBlades are currently in fourth place in the Southwest Division with a 29-'9-9 record, 67 points, one point behind Pensacola for third.

"We're really excited," RiverBlades head coach Chris Cichocki said. "This is the first step for us to get where we want to be. We're really looking forward to the postseason."

This marks the second time in the team's four-year history that it has qualified for the playoffs, both under the guidance of Chris Cichocki.

In 2000-200', the RiverBlades defeated the Baton Rouge Kingfish in the Wild Card Round two games to none before losing in the Southern Conference Quarterfinals to the eventual Kelly Cup Champions, the South Carolina Stingrays.

The RiverBlades hit the road for a four-game road trip in the early part of March, playing the Mississippi Sea Wolves in Biloxi twice, and the Lexington Men-O-War in Kentucky twice. Arkansas then returns home to the Alltel Arena on Friday, March '4th, hosting the division-rival Louisiana IceGators.
