Falcons Drop Exhibition 5-2
October 5, 2002 - ECHL (ECHL)
Fresno Falcons News Release
FRESNO, Calif. â In a preview of next Saturday night's season opener for both teams, the Bakersfield Condors defeated the defending Taylor Cup Champion Fresno Falcons 5-2 in an exhibition game at Centennial Garden Saturday night. The Falcons travel to Bakersfield again a week from tonight on Oct. 12 to officially begin their defense of the Taylor Cup.
The teams skated to a scoreless first period before the Condors broke the game open with three straight goals in the first 12 minutes of the second. Jason Ralph, Billy Osipenko and Jonathan Sorg all scored to give Bakersfield a 3-0 lead. Joe Frederick finally struck for the Falcons when he beat Condors netminder Fredrik Jensen with a slapshot at 14:00 of the second. Alex Todd and Kirk DeWaele contributed a pair of assists. Any momentum Fresno gained was short-lived as Bakersfield added two more tallies from Andre Allard and Nate Anderson to finish the frame and lead 5-1 after two.
Falcons rookie Jordan Landry scored the only goal for either in team in the third period off a feed from Jason Weaver for the final margin. Goaltender Mark Gowan played the entire way in net for Fresno, stopping 29 of 34 shots.
The Falcons' home opener for the 2002-2003 campaign is on Oct. 18 in a Taylor Cup Finals re-match with the Idaho Steelheads. Single-game tickets are now on sale at the Selland Arena Box Office and all Ticketmaster outlets. Season ticket packages are still available for as little as $100. Call the Falcons offices at 485-PUCK (7825) for more information.
