January 3, 2010 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Springfield Falcons News Release

The Springfield Falcons lost to the Lowell Devils 5-2 on Sunday afternoon at the Paul Tsongas Arena in Lowell, MA. Lowell's Patrick Davis scored a pair of goals in leading the Devils to the victory. The Falcons will next play at Manchester on Wednesday night at the Verizon Wireless Arena.

After the Falcons battled back midway through the second period to even the score at 2-2, the Devils scored two goals less than a minute apart taking a 4-2 lead into the second intermission and regaining the momentum in the game.

In a back and forth second period, the Devils took a 2-1 lead at 8:15 of the middle frame when Nathan Perkovich tallied on the power play. The Falcons evened the score at 2-2 when Colin McDonald converted on a Ryan MacMurchy pass at 15:42 of the middle stanza, but Lowell regained their lead at 3-2 when Davis scored his ninth marker of the year just one-minute later. Davis added his second goal of the game at 17:40 of the second period giving Lowell a 4-2 advantage.

"That was the point of the game where it slipped away from us," said Falcons head coach Rob Daum. "On the third goal, we made a bad change and they took advantage. On the fourth goal, we played the three-on-two fine, the puck just hit a skate and went in, just a bad break, but that third goal against was the turning point in the game."

The Devils opened the scoring at 6:12 of the first period when Tyler Eckford scored his seventh goal of the year. The Falcons evened the score at 1-1 when Liam Reddox redirected a Cody Wild shot past Lowell goaltender Mike McKenna on the power play at 16:42 of the opening frame.

Late in the opening period, a handful of players gathered together just in front of the Falcons bench with Kip Brennan and Myles Stoesz dropping the gloves, along with Alex Plante and Louis Robitaille collecting fighting majors. Both Plante and Robitaille collected automatic matching game misconduct penalties for the second altercation on the play.
