Canucks Assign Mathieu Schneider To Moose

The Vancouver Canucks today announced they have assigned defenceman Mathieu Schneider to the Manitoba Moose.

Schneider, 40, has appeared in 17 games with the parent Vancouver Canucks this season where he has accumulated five points (2g & 3a) along with 12 penalty minutes. He has appeared in 1281 career NHL games with Montreal, the New York Islanders, Toronto, the New York Rangers, Los Angeles, Detroit, Anaheim, Atlanta, and Vancouver where he has scored 739 points (223g & 516a) while racking up 1241 penalty minutes. The New York, NY native has also played in 111 career NHL playoff games for 53 points (10g & 43a) and 155 penalty minutes. He was a teammate of Moose captain Mike Keane for six seasons and played together in 1993 when the Montreal Canadiens captured the Stanley Cup. He has also represented the United States at two Winter Olympics (199 & 2006), and won the World Cup title with the U.S. back in 1996.

The left-handed defenceman appeared in 28 career AHL games, all with the Sherbrooke Canadiens back in 1989-90. In that span, he collected 19 points (6g & 13a) along with 20 penalty minutes.

Schneider was originally drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the third round, 44th overall, in the 1987 NHL Entry Draft.
