Falcons Add Two at the Deadline
March 11, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Fresno Falcons News Release
FRESNO, Calif. â The Fresno Falcons signed left winger David Haas and center Rob Bonneau just prior to the West Coast Hockey League's 3 p.m. deadline today for adding professional players to this season's roster.
Haas becomes the 10th Falcon in team history to have reached the National Hockey League where he played a handful of games with the Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames in the early 1990's. He spent the majority of his career in the American Hockey League before playing the last five seasons in the German Elite League. Haas won the AHL's Calder Cup with the Cape Breton Oilers in 1992-93.
Bonneau also has experience at the next level, having logged 175 games in the AHL and IHL combined. The native of Springfield, MA, was a teammate of Falcons defenseman Kayle Short when together they won the East Coast Hockey League's Kelly Cup in 1997-98 with the Hampton Roads Admirals.
"We really needed to address our depth at forward with recent injuries to Mike Mathers and Chris Kenady and the departure of Ryan Duthie," said Falcons Head Coach and General Manager Blaine Moore. "David and Rob have both spent a lot of time at the next level and have championship experience. They'll both be able to provide some more veteran leadership, which I think we needed as we head into the playoffs.
Neither Haas nor Bonneau was currently playing professionally before signing with Fresno. To make room on the roster, the Falcons waived Greg Spenrath, who remains with the club as assistant coach, and forward Andrew Gardner. WCHL teams may still add players to their rosters until the April 8th playoff roster deadline, but players must come from either the college or junior ranks.
