Steelheads Sign Matt Oates

BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads announced today that they have signed Forward Matt Oates. The signing comes on the West Coast Hockey League deadline that allows a team to add veteran professional players to a team's roster.

Oates, who played with the Steelheads during the 2001-02 season, has been working this season as a Sponsor Account Executive for the organization that manages the Steelheads, Diamond Sports.

The 30-year-old, 6'2", 200 pound Oates was a 7th round selection by the New York Rangers in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft. He last played for the Idaho Steelheads, scoring 21 goals and 29 assists in 60 games during the 2001-02 season. He was also named as Steelheads MVP for the 2001-02 Taylor Cup playoffs.

Prior to coming to the Steelheads organization, Oates played in the British Sekonda Super League for the Newcastle Jesters where he was captain and selected team MVP. He also played for various teams in the IHL and ECHL following his 3-years at Miami University in Ohio (1991-94).
